Born October 15th, 1973, Alfred was just shy of his 49th birthday when he took his own life. This came as a shock to family and friends as well as the communities that he was actively involved in. Al was known as a confident, charitable, and courageous man. He lived his life traveling the world only to discover a passion for people that undoubtedly influenced his desire to help others. In the months prior to his death, he suffered from anxiety and depression. Something that he had never dealt with before. We do not know the extent of his suffering as he did not want to burden family or friends with the fight going on inside his mind. A note pad was found in a favorite spot of his on his front porch with the statement, "Re-wire the anxious brain". This sentence stuck with us because it spoke to a silent struggle that he felt he could not share and could not fix. The silence is now deafening as his words play over and over.
Simple. Men's health! Men die by suicide almost four times that of women. We are working to raise awareness and normalize boys and men getting the help they need and more importantly deserve. Donations will help us continue to work with local communities that Al loved and helped himself. Proceeds will be used for annual events so that we can continue to spread the word.
Every year, we plan to hold events in honor of Al. We are currently planning to hold events in Folly Beach, SC and Asheville, NC each year to raise funds and awareness to normalize men asking and getting the help they need and deserve. Our hope is to provide the momentum needed to help us change the way men think and feel about their health care.
